CRISS 1346 CD DAVID KIKOSKI TRIO - CONSEQUENCES -

On his ninth Criss Cross date as a leader (and 22nd label appearance
overall), pianist David Kikoski convenes an extraordinary trio with
two famed and longstanding allies, bassist Christian McBride and
drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts.

It's no stretch to say that a lineup like this is guaranteed to swing -
and it does, on a set of finely wrought Kikoski originals, including
the two-part title track Consequences. Watts' own uptempo Mr. JJ and
slow-grooving Blue Tain round out the set, and Kikoski ends with a
poetic solo-piano take of Never Let Me Go.

Complex, elegant and bluesy, Consequences is an essential item in
Kikoski's growing oeuvre.

CRISS 1347 CD JOHN ELLIS - IT'S YOU I LIKE -

Melody and groove are the watchwords on John Ellis' masterful Criss Cross
debut, which mixes optimistic songs composed by the iconic children's
television host, Fred (a.k.a. "Mister") Rogers, himself a fine jazz pianist,
and dark ones by the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith.

Joined by New York A-listers Mike Moreno (guitar), Aaron Goldberg (piano),
Matt Penman (bass), and Rodney Green (drums), Ellis - playing mostly
tenor saxophone and a bit of bass clarinet - addresses the repertoire
with a surefooted time feel, gorgeous tone, and abiding melodicism.

CRISS 1348 CD LUIS PERDOMO - THE 'INFANCIA' PROJECT -

This time the exceptional pianist Luis Perdomo reaches back to the
earliest influences he grew up listening to: South American and
Afro Caribbean Rhythms, on this, his second outing for Criss Cross Jazz:
The 'Infancia' Project.

Luis has handpicked a well balanced and stellar band to back him up:
two players of the new generation with fresh ideas and concepts,
Mark Shim on tenor saxophone and virtuoso percussionist Mauricio
Herrera, plus two very influential legends deeply rooted in the
tradition: bassist Andy Gonzalez and drummer Ignacio Berroa.

With The 'Infancia' Project Luis Perdomo further establishes himself
as a resourceful master musician and bandleader.

CRISS 1349 CD ZACH BROCK - ALMOST NEVER WAS -

One of the most virtuosic and emotive voices of contemporary jazz
violin, rising star Zach Brock has drawn praise from a wide cohort
of fellow musicians and critics for his musical acumen.

Having appeared notably as a sideman with musicians such as Stanley
Clarke and Patricia Barber, Brock convenes a world-class rhythm
section for his Criss Cross debut (pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist
Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland), who inspire him to uncork
a series of efflorescent, graceful improvisations on a program of
originals and re-imagined standards.
