CRISS 1318 CD SEAMUS BLAKE QUINTET - BELLWETHER -

Ever since he debuted with The Call (Criss 1088) back in 1994,
saxophonist Seamus Blake's star has been on the rise and he continues to
be a valued member of the Criss Cross family.

As a follow-up to Way Out Willy (Criss 1288), Blake's latest features
pianist David Kikoski, guitarist Lage Lund, bassist Matt Clohesy, and
drummer Bill Stewart on another electrifying set of originals that
sparkle with creativity and the kind of integrity that marks the best
of today's current generation of jazz artists.

Among a decidedly upbeat set of tunes, highlights further include
some deeply moving statements from the saxophonist and Lund on the
introspective The Song That Lives Inside. Rounding out the mix are
takes on John Scofield's Dance Me Home and a third stream-inspired
reworking of Debussy's String Quartet in G Minor, Opus 10.

CRISS 1318 CD Dr. LONNIE SMITH TRIO - THE ART OF ORGANIZING -

Brace yourselves for The Art of Organizing, the very first appearance
on Criss Cross by organ master Dr. Lonnie Smith.

Organ jazz is of course an important part of the Criss Cross catalog.
Our releases by the likes of Melvin Rhyne and Sam Yahel bear that out,
also demonstrating how this vital idiom spans the generations.
And you're very likely to find that a Criss Cross organ date involves
modern master guitarist Peter Bernstein, an important leader for our
label in his own right.
Indeed, it is none other than Bernstein who joins Smith on The Art of
Organizing. Billy Drummond, one of the more prolific and sensitive
drummers of our time, completes the lineup.

From his early days with George Benson and Lou Donaldson to the present
day, Dr. Lonnie Smith has always been a driving force in jazz.
The Art of Organizing, featuring Smith and trio on standards and a batch
of strong new originals, is another contribution that will remain timeless.

CRISS 1319 CD KEYON HARROLD QUINTET - INTRODUCING KEYON HARROLD -

Long considered on of the brightest young trumpet talents on the
New York scene, Keyon Harrold blows fire and brimstone on his
Criss Cross debut on a suite of six original tunes, a spiritual,
and Horace Silver's iconic ballad Peace.

Joining Harrold for the ride are several best-and-brightest members
of his peer group, including tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland,
his brother E.J. Strickland on drums, pianist Danny Grissett,
and bassist Dezron Douglas, as well as Harrold's one-time teacher,
the legendary trumpeter Charles Tolliver.
