CRISS 1306 CD KIRK LIGHTSEY QUINTET - LIGHTSEY TO GLADDEN -

In 1990, when he recorded this scintillating date, now released for the
first time, pianist Kirk Lightsey was one of New York's first-call pianists,
a regular in the rotation at Bradley's, the legendary New York piano saloon,
with the likes of John Hicks, Walter Davis, Jr., Tommy Flanagan, George
Cables, and Roger Kellaway.

Here he convenes a cohort of New York A-listers --- trumpet giant and fellow
Detroiter Marcus Belgrave; tenor saxophonist and flutist Craig Handy, then
making his first impact on the scene; bassist David Williams, who could
boast a decade's experience as Cedar Walton's bassist of choice; and drummer
Eddie Gladden, Lightsey's bandmate with Dexter Gordon's group before ---
to play a program that includes strong repertoire by Lightsey, Wayne
Shorter, Detroit drummer Lawrence Williams, and choice standards.

CRISS 1307 CD LAGE LUND QUINTET - EARLY SONGS -

A fixture on the New York scene since 2003, when he accepted a scholarship
at the Juilliard School of Music, Norwegian guitarist Lage Lund, who won the
prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2005, displays
what the fuss is about on his Criss Cross debut.

Framing his beautiful sound and keen sense of line are a group of young
New York first-callers --- Marcus Strickland, tenor saxophone; Danny
Grissett, piano; Orlando LeFleming, bass, and Kendrick Scott, drums.

CRISS 1308 CD LUIS PERDOMO - PATHWAYS -

For the first Criss Cross release under his own name, the remarkable
Venezuelan-born, New York-based pianist Luis Perdomo has chosen to
Interact with an immensely talented pair of longtime friends --- bassist
Hans Glawischnig and drummer Eric McPherson --- in a program that includes
eight well-crafted originals, two compositions sourced from the Broadway
stage and a particularly memorable Bud Powell tune.

A youthful veteran, who's already shared bandstands with Ray Barretto,
Dafnis Prieto, David Sanchez, Jerry Gonzalez, Miguel Zenón, and Ravi
Coltrane.

With Pathways, he demonstrates his mastery not only on Latin-tinged
material but also on straightahead jazz that is, by turns, rhapsodic,
gently propulsive and downright boppish.

Luis has previously been heard on Brian Lynch's Criss Cross album Conclave
(2005).
