CRISS 1295 CD JIMMY GREENE - GIFTS and GIVERS -

Seldom heard since the days of Eddie "Lockjaw Davis" and Johnny Griffin
saxophonist Jimmy Greene joins forces with Marcus Strickland for a two
tenor line on his fourth set as a leader for Criss Cross.

Easily his best album to date, GIFTS AND GIVERS crackles with
excitement on a program of originals and iconic standards such as
Sonny Stitt's "Eternal Triangle", John Coltrane's "26-2", and
Kenny Dorham's "Blue Bossa", taken here in 7/4.

Supported by veterans Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland, our horn men
are also joined by two-up-and-coming talents, guitarist Mike Moreno,
and pianist Danny Grissett.

CRISS 1296 CD PETER BEETS TRIO - NEW GROOVE -

Peter Beets' fourth Criss Cross release features the pianist at
the helm of a piano, guitar and bass trio.

This novel configuration produces a rhythmically diverse take on
American Popular Songbook favorites, jazz standards, and Beets'
original compositions. The disc's eleven tracks encompass relaxed
pre-bop swing, modern up-tempo excursions, and sensitive balladry.

Bassists Reuben Rogers and Ruud Jacobs, and guitarists Joe Cohn
and Martijn Van Iterson, excel as accompanists and soloists.

Beets consistently plays on a level that earns him a place in the
upper echelon of young pianists

CRISS 1297 CD CONRAD HERWIG - A JONES FOR BONES TONES -

On his seventh Criss Cross Date, and second two-trombone pairing with
Steve Davis, Conrad Herwig offers a tribute to eight trombone heroes.

Joined by the rhythm section with which Herwig plays regularly in the
Mingus Big Band and Mingus Dynasty, pianist Orrin Evans, bassist Boris
Kozlov, and drummer Donald Edwards, the trombonists navigate feels from
bebop to modal, to Brazilian to Afro-Cuban, playing with invention and
joie de vivre.
